Lamine Yamal’s father lured to stabbing by four men wanting to ‘make peace’

Mounir Nasraoui is recovering in hospital, having been tricked into meeting a group of relatives who then attacked him in a car park

Lamine Yamal’s father was stabbed after being allegedly tricked into meeting up with four men who he believed wanted to “make peace” following a row.
Mounir Nasraoui told Spanish TV “I saw myself between life and death” after the men turned on him as he walked into their trap. Nasraoui had been lured to a car park for a “clear-the-air” meeting armed with the group intent on violence, reported Catalan news outlet La Vanguardia.
The four members of the same Spanish family surrounded the Spanish international’s father and started to punch and kick him before one allegedly stabbed him.
One Barcelona FC executive who visited him in hospital, where he is recovering from three stab wounds to his stomach and ribs, reportedly said: “Luckily a friend of the father’s appeared because otherwise they would have killed him.”
Four men in custody, who have not yet been named, are due to appear in court later on Friday.
The 17-year-old Barcelona forward’s father has already given a police statement but is not expected to be well enough to attend court for the initial hearing, which will take place behind closed doors.
Wednesday night’s stabbing in a car park in Mataro, north of Barcelona, followed an incident at around 3pm earlier the same day in which Nasraoui got into an argument with the father of a young boy who had thrown water over him from a balcony in Rocafonda as he walked his dog.
The 32-year-old was pictured being escorted from the scene by police who were trying to defuse a tense situation. La Vanguardia reported that the subsequent stabbing was “absolutely incomprehensible”. “Those three individuals, along with a fourth man who joined them, knew the man they had had a bust-up with was the father of Lamine Yamal,” the publication reported.
Police confirmed they had arrested three men immediately over the stabbing before revealing hours later they had held a fourth suspect.
The victim spent a night in intensive care at Germans Trias i Pujol Hospital in Barcelona before being transferred to a normal ward.
Yamal, the standout young player at Euro 2024, was pictured leaving the hospital. Barcelona president Joan Laporta also visited Nasraoui.
In a message on social media, Nasraoui said: “Thank you for all your support. I’m better, a big hug for everyone.”
In a subsequent interview with a Spanish TV programme, he admitted: “Of course I was afraid. I saw myself between life and death. I suffered fear like any other person. Thank God I’ve just been taken to a normal ward and I’m a bit better. I have to be calm and think the courts will now do their job and I’m sure they will, which is the most important thing. Thank God everything has a solution.”
Yamal’s famous goal celebration, in which he signals 304 with his fingers, reflects the last three digits of Rocafonda’s postcode.
